Gastronomy and wine tourism on the Costa Dorada
Traditional Mediterranean aromas and flavours are the essence of Costa Dorada's cuisine. The region's wealth of fresh, quality seafood and produce has given rise to an endless array of delectable dishes, as well as excellent wines from several select wine regions.
Discerning palates will want to sample the roasted calçots (a local variety of spring onion) in March, the wild boar stew in winter and the rossejat de fideus (a noodle paella) any time of year, as well as the region's world-famous xató (a cod salad served over curly endive) and Reus's stellar take on blancmange. Indeed, the region offers a genuine cornucopia of vegetables and meat, fish and fruit, nuts and world-class wines
The vine, perhaps the most prominent symbol of the Mediterranean culture, is also one of the values that identify the Costa Dorada, both for the extensive area of the territory covered by vineyards and for the uniqueness of its products. With six Dos ( denominaciones de origen or designations of origin) for wine and a large part of its territory included in the designation of origin for cava, the Costa Dorada has an outstanding veriety of vineyard scenery.
The almost centenarian vines on the hillsides and terraces of the Priorat and the Serra del Montsant make up an austere landscape that contrasts sharply with the plains of the Camp de Tarragona and the Penedès region. The more mountainous terrain of the Terra Alta and part of the Conca de Barberà add even further diversity to the variety of possible landscapes. It is an agricultural mosaic shared with other traditional Mediterranean crops such as olives, cereals, almonds, and hazelnuts.
Parc Mont-roig offers you holiday rentals, apartments, houses and villas with pool on the Costa Dorada in Miami Playa, Mont-Roig del Camp, Cambrils and Salou, where you can taste the gastronomy of the Costa Dorada and discover the culture of the wine of the region, visiting a winery with wine tasting.
